Most US states reference UL standards in some form, so this is an important node in standards development for plug-in solar. 

 

In December 2025, UL created UL3700 as a new category for Plug-in Photovoltaic (PIPV) and published their "outline of investigation" - this is the first step towards creating a new standard. It's a technical document which discusses specific safety, installation, and testing requirements. The more advocates who can be familiar with and participate in this standards development process, the better.
